FirstPromoter review: what its own pages say about price, five billing systems, three ways to pay and the plan table

By Jimi Barkway · Published 7 September 2026 · Part of the comparison pages

In brief

FirstPromoter is affiliate software for SaaS that reads Stripe, Paddle Classic and Billing, Chargebee, Braintree and Recurly. Starter is $49 to $5,000 a month revenue from affiliates, Business $99 to $15,000, Enterprise from $149 with more tiers on a call. Starter has 3 campaigns and 1,000 affiliates; Business is unlimited. A campaign is a program with its own commission rule. Three ways to pay: one-click through PayPal or Stripe Payouts, a CSV in bulk, or one by one, on NET-30 by default. Managed auto payouts cost the merchant nothing and need Enterprise 2. Two cookies at 60 days. Fourteen days free, no card.

What is FirstPromoter, and who is it for?

In shortFirstPromoter is affiliate software for SaaS that reads five billing systems: Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee, Braintree and Recurly. It starts at $49 a month, banded by how much your affiliates bring in. It gives you three ways to pay them. Tax forms and email automation are on its plan table. Its features page counts 18 report types. Its managed payout route costs the merchant nothing and needs its Enterprise 2 plan.

The research method was simple. This review is built from FirstPromoter's own pricing page, features page, docs and help centre. All were read on 6 and 7 September 2026. No third-party review scores, no user quotes. Each section says what the pages say and where a claim was not on them. AffiliateRail appears once in the body, at the end, as an alternative with its own trade-offs.

Three words first. A revenue band is the range of monthly affiliate revenue a plan covers before the next plan applies. A campaign on FirstPromoter is a program with its own commission rule. A payout term is how long after the month ends the batch goes out. And a webhook is a message your billing system sends to the tool when something happens, such as a paid invoice. Those shape most of its pricing page.

When a lead visits with a referral link, two cookies, _fprom_tid and _fprom_ref are set in their browser. These cookies have a default lifespan of 60 days (adjustable in the Admin panel)

What does FirstPromoter cost?

In short$49, $99, or from $149 a month, banded by how much your affiliates bring in. Starter covers up to $5,000 a month. Business covers up to $15,000. Enterprise starts at $149 above that, with more tiers on a call. Every plan has a 14-day trial with no card. There is a yearly toggle.

The first band is the narrowest on this site's tables. Let's say your affiliates bring in $4,000 a month. You are on Starter at $49. At $6,000 you have passed $5,000 and are on Business at $99. At $12,000 you are still on Business. At $18,000 you are on Enterprise, from $149. The page says "More Enterprise tiers available" and "Let's Talk". So the price doubles at $5,000 and rises again at $15,000.

The trial line is printed twice on the pricing page: "14-days free trial. No credit card required". The features page repeats it. The pricing page has monthly and yearly toggles, with no discount figure printed in the text read. Its FAQ headings include "How long are your contracts?" and "What's the affiliate cookie life?". The answers sit behind clicks the capture did not open.

What is on each plan?

In shortThe plan table prints five counts in words. Campaigns: 3 on Starter, unlimited above. Websites: 2 on Starter, 3 on Business. Affiliates: 1,000 on Starter, unlimited above. Website visitors and team members: unlimited on all three. The rest of the table is tick marks the page does not print as text. So this review names those rows without saying which plan each lands on.

The rows are long. Email marketing automation and broadcast emails. A brandable affiliate dashboard and custom fields on the affiliate form. "W-9/W-8BEN tax form collection". Your own domain, an embedded dashboard, custom CSS and JavaScript. Removal of the powered-by link. "18 Data Points" of reports. "Campaigns Reports", "Promoters Reports", "Traffic Sources", "Landing Pages". Downloads as CSV or JSON. "Personalized referral links", link and coupon tracking.

Then automation and payouts. "Webhooks and API", Zapier, Make and Albato. "Auto create coupons in Stripe". "Multiple tracking coupons per affiliate". "Affiliates can add their own promotion code". "Quick mass PayPal & Wise bulk payouts". "One-click Stripe Payouts". Multi-tiered commissions. Stripe historical import. One-click direct PayPal payouts. "Invoicing for EU companies". Non-monetary rewards. "Managed Auto Payouts". Fraud: self-referral detection, ad-traffic detection, reCAPTCHA. Automatic tracking of chargebacks and refunds. Manual approval above an amount. Then custom roles, activity logs, SSO and a post-back URL.

The features page puts the reporting in one line: "18 report types covering revenue by affiliate, traffic sources, conversion rates, churn impact, and top performers." And the payouts: "190 currencies supported, conversions in 170." Read the table on its site before you count on a row for your plan.

How does FirstPromoter pay affiliates?

In shortThree ways, in its own words. One-click, through an API integration with PayPal or Stripe Payouts. Externally in bulk, from a CSV you upload to your payment provider. Or externally one by one. A fourth, managed auto payouts, pays for you from one invoice with no fee to the merchant. It needs Enterprise 2, after a review.

The help centre: "There are 3 ways to process payouts." The first is "One-click (automated)". There, "payouts are sent automatically through the API integration with the payout provider". For PayPal, "To pay one-by-one, a personal PayPal account is enough". For one-click or bulk, "you'll need a Business plan or higher, a PayPal Business account, and PayPal's Payouts API enabled". New PayPal accounts "may take a few weeks to get the Payouts API enabled", and the CSV route works meanwhile.

The schedule is written out. "Payouts are sums of commissions for a specific month." On the default term, "payout for the current month will be paid next month on 30th". You can set "NET-15, NET-45, NET-60 or Custom". You can set a minimum. Below it, "payout won't appear". The hold-period page sets that beside every other vendor's.

The managed route is the gated one. "This feature is activated after we review your account." The conditions: "Your account plan is Enterprise 2 or higher", "You are a SaaS company", and a list of excluded businesses. You pay "a single invoice" by bank. FirstPromoter pays the affiliates "through Dots.dev". "There is no additional fees for you right now". Affiliates pay the withdrawal fee, "ex. fixed $0.75 bank withdrawal for US". A payout fee is a cut taken from the money on its way to the affiliate. On this route the merchant's is nothing.

How does the tracking work?

In shortTwo first-party cookies, _fprom_tid and _fprom_ref, set for 60 days by default and adjustable in the admin panel. Sales are read from the billing system by webhook. The features page's line: "Every conversion attributed back to a billing event". Links and coupon codes both track, and fraud checks run before a commission is recorded.

The docs: "When a lead visits with a referral link, two cookies, _fprom_tid and _fprom_ref are set in their browser. These cookies have a default lifespan of 60 days (adjustable in the Admin panel)". A cookie window is how long a click counts. The features page: "Link tracking and coupon codes cover every channel your affiliates use."

The billing systems are the widest of the affiliate-only SaaS tools on this site's tables. The integrations page lists Braintree, Chargebee, Paddle and Recurly. Stripe sits beside them. The Paddle docs support "both Paddle Classic (v1 webhooks) and Paddle Billing (v2 webhooks)". An "Exclude Paddle's fees" toggle decides whether commission is on the gross or the net. The Stripe page lists seven events it reads and says "Developer Required: No". The Chargebee article needs a webhook with five events and your site name. The Chargebee page and the Paddle page walk both.

Fraud, from the features page: "Self-referrals and suspicious conversions flagged automatically before a commission is recorded. Manual approval available." The plan table adds ad-traffic detection and reCAPTCHA on the affiliate portal. On Paddle, the docs note that "VAT-only refunds (refund_type of vat) are ignored". Commissions already recorded are not recalculated when the fees toggle changes.

What should you check before you buy?

In shortFour things. Which plan the rows you need land on. The table's tick marks decide that, and the page does not print them as text. How fast your affiliate revenue will pass $5,000, because that is where the price doubles. Whether you want one-click PayPal, because that needs Business and PayPal's Payouts API. And whether you will ever reach Enterprise 2, because that is where the managed route lives.

The API is on the table as "Webhooks and API". Its v2 uses a Bearer key and allows "400 requests per minute per account". It has a tracking API for "sales, refunds, upgrades and cancellations even if you have a billing provider we do not support". Its docs list an experimental MCP server. The API comparison has it beside ten others.

For example, imagine a Chargebee SaaS with one product and a dozen affiliates. FirstPromoter is one of two tools this site found with a Chargebee guide. Starter covers it at $49 to $5,000 a month. Now imagine three products at three rates. A customer-success team who send referrals. Affiliates who want a monthly email. That is Business at $99, with unlimited campaigns. Which plan the email automation lands on is a tick mark to check. Now imagine you would rather never touch the payouts. That is Enterprise 2, after a review.

Who should pick FirstPromoter, and who should look elsewhere?

In shortPick it if you bill through Chargebee, Braintree, Recurly or Paddle Billing. Pick it for tax forms and email automation on the plan table, or for one-click payouts through PayPal or Stripe Payouts from your own account. Look elsewhere if you are between $5,000 and $10,000 a month and price is the deciding line. Look elsewhere if you want a managed payout route before Enterprise 2.

The side-by-side pages go further. Rewardful vs FirstPromoter is the closest match on price. Tolt vs FirstPromoter covers the two managed routes. FirstPromoter vs Tapfiliate covers the shop case. And the alternatives round-up lists every tool this site has priced beside it.

An alternative, with its own trade-offs. AffiliateRail is $29 a month founding to $10,000 a month from affiliates, then $59 to $20,000. It pays affiliates from your own PayPal or Wise on a schedule, at 0% of the payout, from the $59 plan. There is no plan gate above it. It reads Stripe and Paddle Billing only. So a Chargebee, Braintree or Recurly merchant should stay with FirstPromoter. It has unlimited affiliates on every plan. Its script reads the fpr parameter, so links published on FirstPromoter keep converting after a move. The comparison page sets the two side by side, and the switch guide covers the export.
