In brief
Seventeen of twenty affiliate platforms compute commissions from your billing events with no action from you. Seventeen correct them on a refund. Fourteen can approve partners on their own. Only three send payouts on a schedule from your own account with no click. They are AffiliateRail and Partnero from $59, and Refgrow when the affiliate asks. Six pay your partners after you pay an invoice. Five need one click a run, and three give you an export. Eleven collect tax forms; fourteen email partners; eleven let you edit the words. No platform does all six with no click and no invoice.
No card. Cancel in one click.
What does affiliate marketing automation software actually automate?
In shortSix things, and no platform on this site's calculator does all six with no click and no invoice. Seventeen of twenty compute commissions from your billing events with no action from you. Fourteen can approve partners on their own. Seventeen correct a commission on a refund by themselves. Only three send payouts on a schedule from your own account with no click. They are AffiliateRail from $59, Partnero from $59, and Refgrow when the affiliate asks. Eleven collect tax forms in the product. Fourteen send partner emails on their own.
The research method was simple. I put six questions to twenty vendors' pricing pages, help centres and docs on 7 September 2026. Can it approve partners without you? Does it work out the commission from Stripe or Paddle without you? Does it fix the commission on a refund without you? Does it send the money without you, and from whose account, and for what fee? Does it collect tax forms? Does it email partners, and can you change the words? Where a page did not say, the cell says so. I found that "automated" on a pricing page mostly means "automated after you click". The click that remains is nearly always the payout.
Three words first. A review queue is the list of partner applications waiting for a yes, and auto-approve is the setting that skips it. A billing event is a message from Stripe or Paddle that a payment happened. A platform reads those so you never record a sale by hand. And a payout run is one batch of payments to everyone who is due. It is the step most platforms still hand back to you.

Which steps are automated on nearly every platform?
In shortThe commission and the refund. Seventeen of twenty work out what a partner is owed from your billing events with no action from you. Sixteen do it by listening to Stripe or Paddle, and Trackdesk by polling Stripe every 15 minutes. Seventeen correct the commission on a refund by themselves. Three need a hand on the commission. Tapfiliate wants a developer or an API call. Partli reads from your own webhook. A webhook is a message your billing system sends to a URL when something happens, and on Partli you wire that up yourself. Impact runs on its own tracking.
That is the part founders worry about and the part that is settled. Once Stripe is connected, a sale, a renewal, an upgrade and a refund all arrive as events. The platform does the arithmetic. Six print the exact events they read: FirstPromoter seven, Refgrow six, Dub five, refVenue five, AffiliateRail three, Partli one. The recurring commissions page has the refund handling in each vendor's words. The Stripe integration page has the events.
Partner approval is nearly as settled. Fourteen platforms print an auto-approve setting or an open join link. Fifteen print a review queue, and thirteen print both. Every auto-approve setting sits on the entry plan or has no gate. Only Affonso and PromoteKit move the review queue up a plan, to Growth and to Pro at $29. Rewardful, Ambassly, Komissio and refVenue print nothing either way. That means the pages read did not say, not that the setting is absent.
Which step is nearly never automated?
In shortThe payout. Only three platforms send the money on a schedule from your own account with no click. They are AffiliateRail from its $59 plan, Partnero from $59, and Refgrow in a mode the affiliate triggers. Partli runs a schedule from a balance you top up. Six pay your partners after you pay them an invoice or fund an account. Five need one click per run from your own account. Three give you an export and stop. Two do not say.
So "automated payouts" on a pricing page is usually one of two other things. It is a click: FirstPromoter's one-click on Business, Dub's "Confirm payouts" on Business, Komissio's scheduled run on Starter. Trackdesk's is a click through your Tipalti account, and LeadDyno's through your PayPal business account. Or it is an invoice: Tolt on Growth at 2% plus $8 or 4%, Rewardful's Managed Payouts at 3%, Reditus at 2% or 5%. Affonso's managed route, PartnerStack at 10% and Impact from an auto-charged card are invoices too. Dub's page says "one-click (or fully automated)" and every step it prints is "click Confirm payouts".
The invoice route is automated for you and custodial for your partners: the platform holds the money between your payment and theirs. The click route is non-custodial and needs you once a month. The scheduled route from your own account is both, and it is the rarest. The automatic payouts page sets the three shapes side by side with the fees. The custody page has each vendor's route in its own words.
What about tax forms and emails?
In shortEleven platforms collect tax forms in the product. Five do it because they pay the partner themselves: Dub, PartnerStack, Impact, Rewardful on Managed Payouts, Reditus on its automated route. Six do it as a setting on your own route. AffiliateRail from $59, Tolt from $99 and FirstPromoter from $99 are three of them. Affonso on Elite, and Partnero and LeadDyno with no plan named, are the other three. Three point you to Stripe, PayPal or Trolley. Six print nothing.
Emails are the softest automation and the one with the most plan gates. Fourteen platforms send partner emails on their own: welcome, approval, payout. Eleven let you change the words. On six that is the entry plan: Tapfiliate, Partnero, PartnerStack, LeadDyno, Refgrow, and Partli for campaigns from $79. On four it is one plan up: AffiliateRail at $59, Tolt at $99, FirstPromoter at $99, Dub at $300. On Trackdesk it is Enterprise. Affonso says outright that its system emails are not editable.
A transactional email is one the system sends because something happened, such as an approval or a payout. A campaign is one you write. Every platform that prints emails at all sends the transactional ones on its own. What the plan buys is your own words and your own sender. The onboarding article covers the five messages worth writing yourself. It also covers why the day-one one should come from you rather than the platform.
Which platform automates the most?
In shortNone does all six with no click and no invoice. Closest on your own account: AffiliateRail's Grow at $59 and Partnero's Starter at $59. Both have auto-approve, commissions from billing events, refund correction, a scheduled payout from your own PayPal or Wise at 0%, tax-form collection and editable emails. Closest on a platform-pays route: Dub's Business at $90 and Tolt's Growth at $99. There the payout is an invoice or a click and the platform holds the money.
For example, imagine a founder who wants to touch the program once a month at most. On AffiliateRail or Partnero at $59 the monthly touch is reading the ledger. Approval, commission, refund, payout, tax form and email all run without a click. On Dub at $90 it is one click to confirm the payouts and a 5% fee. On Tolt at $99 it is paying an invoice and a 2% fee plus $8. Now imagine a founder who prefers to press the button. FirstPromoter's Business at $99 and Komissio's Starter at $49 give one click from your own account and no cut. Now imagine one who will never let the money leave without seeing it. Every export route on the table does that at $0.
Two conflicts the pages print and this page does not resolve. Refgrow's "fully automatic" mode is triggered when the affiliate asks, not by the calendar. Reditus prints its automated-payout plan three different ways across its pages. Ask before you rely on either. The cheapest page ranks the plans, and the pricing comparison shows where each price jumps.
A word on this site's own product, with its trade-offs. AffiliateRail automates all six on its $59 plan. Partners are approved or queued as you set it. Commissions come from Stripe and Paddle events, and refunds are voided or netted on their own. Payouts go on a schedule from your own PayPal or Wise at 0%. Tax forms are collected in the portal, and the emails are yours to edit. On the $29 plan the payout is a click and the emails are the product's template. It has no marketplace and no managed route where it holds the money. Payoneer, bank and crypto payouts are a file you upload.
All six steps, no click, no invoice, from $59
Approval, commission, refund, payout, tax form and email on their own, with the money leaving your own PayPal or Wise at 0%. Fourteen days, no card.
Every cell on this page was read off the vendor's own pages on 7 September 2026. Where a cell says "not printed", the pages read did not say. Plans change. Read the help centre before you rely on a row.
