Moving from Ambassly to AffiliateRail

No Ambassly importer exists yet, so this move runs on CSV: export your affiliates and their ledger, and AffiliateRail's importer loads them with a dry run first. Your affiliates' links keep converting, because our tracker reads the via and ref parameters Ambassly uses. Both platforms leave the money in your own PayPal account, so payouts change less than the plan does. Plan an afternoon. Or hand it to us and we run the whole migration with you.

01 Stage 1

Your existing affiliate links keep working

Ambassly's affiliate link carries ?via=CODE, or ?ref=CODE, and their short links land on your site with ?via= appended (their attribution rules, checked 4 September 2026). Our tracker reads via and ref, along with aff. An old link lands on your site, the script reads the parameter, and the referral goes to the same affiliate. Nobody edits a link.

One thing is not read: via_link, Ambassly's per-content token. The affiliate is still credited. The split by video or newsletter is not.

02 Stage 2

What comes over, and how

There is no Ambassly importer yet, so the move runs on CSV. Ambassly exports payout batches as CSV, and its terms say the ledger data is yours (pricing and terms, checked 4 September 2026). A full export is not documented: ask their support. The importer takes three files:

  • Partners: email required. The Ambassly code goes in the referral token column, so old links keep working.
  • Customers: one per referred customer, with their partner.
  • Transactions: one per payment, with the amount and date.
A dry run first, every time. Run it again and records are matched, not duplicated. One click rolls it back.

03 Stage 3

Run both for a month

Add our script beside a.js. Both trackers run, and ours reads their links, so nothing is lost while both are on. Watch a few referrals land and compare the two dashboards.

Ambassly's cookie lasts 60 days by default, and Safari can cut it to about a week, in their own words (their attribution rules, checked 4 September 2026). A month of overlap lets referrals inside that window convert on the old side before you close it, and their default 30-day hold clears.

04 Stage 4

How do payouts change after the switch?

On Ambassly you pay affiliates yourself. Export a CSV or a PayPal mass-pay file, upload it to your own PayPal, and mark the batch paid (their pricing page and their FAQ, checked 4 September 2026). Their FAQ says automated payouts are not part of the MVP. No fee is printed.

AffiliateRail keeps that principle and removes the file. From the $59 Grow plan, payouts run through your own PayPal or Wise account on a schedule, at 0%.

Step by step

The switch, step by step

Most merchants do this in an afternoon. If you would rather hand it over, we run migrations white-glove: a screen-share and an hour, and we do the rest. Email support@affiliaterail.com.

  1. Create your program

    Connect Stripe. The connection is read-only: we read subscription events to credit sales, and we cannot write to your Stripe account.

  2. Export from Ambassly

    The payout CSVs from your dashboard, and a data export of affiliates and commissions from their support. Put each affiliate's Ambassly code in the referral token column.

  3. Run the CSV import

    Map the columns, read the dry run, then run it. Check the counts against your Ambassly dashboard.

  4. Add the script and invite

    Old links credit from this moment. Your affiliates' email, links and balance are already there when they arrive.

  5. Close the old account

    Remove a.js once you have watched a few referrals land on our side, and pay any final balance from Ambassly's last export.

What does not carry over

A migration page that lists only the good news is an advert. These do not come across.

  • Portal passwords

    Your affiliates set a new password from their invite to the new portal. Their identity, links and balance are waiting for them. Their old login is not.

  • Visits and click logs

    We import people and money, not Ambassly's click records. Click counting starts fresh on our side.

  • Cookies already set on visitors' devices

    A visitor referred last week carries Ambassly's attribution, not ours. The moment they click any affiliate link again, we credit them. No vendor can transfer another vendor's cookies.

  • Per-content links

    Ambassly's via_link token splits one affiliate's results by video, newsletter or README. Our tracker reads via and credits the affiliate. The split by placement is not carried.

  • The audit trail

    Ambassly keeps an event history behind every commission. We import each commission with its state, not the history of how it got there. That history stays on Ambassly.

Cost

What the same program costs on each

Ambassly is flat and AffiliateRail is banded, so the table runs by revenue. Checked against Ambassly's pricing page on 4 September 2026. Starter is $39 a month with one program and 50 active affiliates. Growth is $79 with three programs and 500. Scale is $149 with no limits. Revenue never moves the plan, and no yearly price is published.

Above $10,000 a month Ambassly's flat $39 is the cheaper plan for a program under 50 active affiliates, and this page says so. Past 50 it is $79, past 500 it is $149. Neither side takes a fee on payouts from your own account. Run the totals at your own volume.

Common questions

Will my affiliates' Ambassly links keep working?

Yes. Ambassly links carry via or ref, and our tracker reads both, along with aff. A link published a year ago credits the same affiliate from the day the script goes on your site. The per-content token, via_link, is not read, so the split by placement starts again on our side.

Is there an Ambassly importer?

Not yet. The importer reads Rewardful, FirstPromoter, Tapfiliate, Tolt and Affonso directly, and takes a CSV from anything else. Ambassly exports payout batches as CSV, and a full export of affiliates and commissions is a support request away. We build a direct importer when a customer asks for one.

What does not come across from Ambassly?

Portal passwords, click records, cookies already set on visitors' devices, the per-content split, and the event history behind each commission. Affiliates, their codes, their referred customers and their commissions do come across through the CSV.

How long does the switch take?
